In ancient Babylon, more than 60000 pounds of frankincense resin have been burned every year due to their pleasant aroma that has been used for ritualistic purposes. The herb was even mentioned in the Bible, when the Magi brought baby Jesus 3 gifts – myrrh, gold and frankincense. Besides being used as fragrance, nowadays we use frankincense as a natural remedy for numerous ailments. The oil can boost the immune system, prevent toothache and cavities, treat colds and prevent other infections.
According to a study conducted at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Center, the oil contains a compound known as beta-elemene which is responsible for most of the oil’s benefits. Many cancer patients use herbs rich in the compound as a natural treatment as beta-elemene has shown that it can prevent cancer cell growth in laboratory tests. The few human trials conducted on it have shown that the compound can indeed improve the quality of life of cancer patients, although further research is required in order to draw final conclusions.
Today we’re going to talk about frankincense essential oil’s astringent properties which can be of great help against skin problems. The oil can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and promote the regeneration of skin cells as well. These signs of aging are difficult to get rid of, but the process can be delayed without spending a fortune on commercial lotions and creams. Most of these products contain a variety of chemicals such as fragrance, benzyl alcohol and PEG-100 Stearate which can harm your skin beyond repair.
Instead of these products, you can start using frankincense oil in order to erase the signs of aging on your facial skin. As we already mentioned, the oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and healing properties which work great against eczema, acne, stretch marks, scars and wrinkles. Here’s how to prepare the oil for use:
Ingredients
- 15 drops of myrrh and frankincense oil each
- ¼ cup Beeswax
- ¼ cup olive oil
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- ¼ cup shea butter
- 2 tablespoons of vitamin E
Preparation
Mix the olive and coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in a bowl, then cook them on low heat and put the mixture in the fridge until it turns solid. Beat it with a hand mixer next, then add the essential oils and vitamin E. Rub the cream on the affected areas of your skin every day to reduce the signs of aging.
